"Return of the King" is the third episode in Season 3 of Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure and forty-fourth overall. It first aired on October 8, 2019.


King Edmund arrives in Corona to give his son, Eugene, a family heirloom; when the heirloom is stolen, Eugene reluctantly joins his father on a journey to retrieve it.[1]

Strong Magical Objects



  • The title may refer the long-waited return of King Edmund from his twenty-five-year long isolation and solitude in his crumbling homeland and kingdom.
  • As of this episode, the opening theme now shows the evil Moonstone-powered Cassandra commanding the ever-expanding black rocky spikes and wielding Adira's very strong shadow sword as her additional weapon
  • Eugene learns more about biological family; such as his birth name having been "Horace"
  • The voice the ghostly girl who had led Cassandra to her troubling girlhood past, and who sweetly coaxed her into coveting and merging with the supremely powerful Moonstone Opal for herself, speaks her name once again, implying that she probably intends to instruct Cassandra into harnessing the Opal's true destructive, deathly powers.
  • The way Sideburns and Patchy took King Edmund as bait to lure Eugene in this episode is similar to the way Varian took Queen Arianna as bait to lure Rapunzel to him in Secret of the Sun Drop.
  • The sidekick crow of King Edmund is revealed to named "Hamuel".
  • Eugene makes a reference to the time when Shorty transformed into a peacock off screen and laid an egg in "Freebird".
  • King Edmund is the third person to like "The Tales of Flynnigan Rider" books. The other two people that also like "The Tales of Flynnigan Rider" books are Varian and Eugene.
  • The way Eugene is annoyed when his dad calls him Horace in this episode is similar to the way Eugene is annoyed when Varian called him by his alias Flynn Rider in "What the Hair?!".
  • Eugene makes a reference to his line, The kingdom and I aren't exactly simpatico at the moment" from Tangled. It is also revealed to be a quote from one of the Flynn Rider books.
  • Rapunzel makes a reference to when she called a yo-yo, a "hey-hey" and how Eugene mentioned it was already invented in "Great Expotations".
  • This is the only episode in which Patchy speaks.
  • Varian, Lance, Angry and Red did not appear in this episode.
